This stone comes from Nigg, a small community only three miles south of Hilton. Carved in relief on both faces, the decoration has similarities with the 8th century free-standing crosses on Iona and with the beautiful artwork in the Book of Kells. The carvings illustrate some Biblical stories as well as having many of the old Pictish symbols.
